I went into all the new hives again today to check the hatching situation and to remove some of the cages. In my queen castle, on the white side, a Lisa had hatched, judging from the beautiful flap that hung from the cell. THis hive had been given two cages, only one of which I had opened. The other queen had hatched, but had died. I don’t know if the bees disregard another bee for care if they have a virgin amongst them. The blue side of the queen castle was abandoned by the bees, even though the queen had emerged. I wonder if my (home made) queen castle was not bee tight. Mayby bees and a queen slipped all to the white side. In which case I do not know if I have a Lisa there, but oh well.
All 4 of the real nucs hatched a queen and had happy bees in them. Not equally strong, but enough to care for the 3 Georges and one Lisa. I hope.
